The excess energy of the DC link is dissipated via the braking resistor. The braking resistors are intended for use with the PM240 and PM240-2 (400-V variants) Power Modules, which have an integrated braking chopper and cannot feed regenerated energy back into the supply system. A plug-in Braking Module is optionally available for frame size FSGX. For generative operation, e.g. braking arotating mass with a large moment of inertia, a braking resistor must be connected that converts the resulting energy to heat. The braking resistors can be mounted to the side of the PM240 and PM240-2 Power Modules.
